Abraham F. “Abe” Roth, 88 of 1300 Greencroft Dr., #62, Goshen, formerly of 1401 Clover Creek Lane, Goshen, died Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Goshen General Hospital where had been a patient since Thursday, April 23rd. He sustained an apparent heart attack, suffering complications of blood loss. He was born to Rollin R. and Cleota Marie (Gardner) Roth on December 5, 1920 in Goshen. He married Phyllis June Bechtel on September 7, 1941. She died January 15, 2008, they were married 67 years. Mr. Roth was owner/operator of Roth & Sons Service Station and Garage at 1000 S. Main St. in Goshen for many years. He began working full time after graduating from Goshen High School, class of 1939, with his father, Rollin who started the business in 1935. Abe retired in 1984. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a charter member of Jefferson Brethren Church where he remained active.  His family appreciated his example of integrity, love of family, his faith, and the acceptance of everyone he met. His sense of humor and kind heart will be missed. He was also active in the community and continued to be involved in the Goshen Evening Exchange Club where he was a charter member and received the Exchange Club Book of Golden Deeds Award on May 11, 1995. He was a member of Maple Crest Country Club and served on the Violett Cemetery Board for ten years. He is survived by one daughter, Jan (Rick) Huber; and one son, Doug (Mary Jane) Roth of Goshen; six grandchildren, Melissa (Sam) Huber Quon of Lansing, Michigan, DJ (Jill) Roth, Robb (Kristin) Huber, Lon (Deanna) Roth and Nate (Amanda) Huber all of Goshen, and Len (Rebbecca) Roth of Ephrata, Pennsylvania; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Rollin R. (Pat) Roth, Jr. of Seattle, Washington and Byron L. (Diane) Roth of Goshen; and one sister-in-law, Sia Roth of Clive Iowa (Charles Roth’s widow). He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Phyllis and two sons, Gregory Allen, at birth and Steven Jay Roth in 1980; and one brother, Charles L. Roth. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009 and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2009 funeral service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Ron Spyker of Jefferson Brethren Church will officiate with Vickie Oldenburg assisting. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to Jefferson Brethren Church Helping Hands Fund to continue Abe’s legacy of serving and helping others.
