Aaron Hoober

Aaron Hoober, 65, of Shipshewana, Indiana, died Friday morning, October 27, 2006, at Goshen General Hospital, after a seven month battle with cancer.   He was born in New Holland, Pennsylvania, on February 18, 1941, to Aaron B. and Esther (Snyder) Hoober, Sr.  He married Mary Jane Kreider in Quarryville, Pennsylvania at the Black Roack Camp and Retreat Center on September 18, 1965.  She survives.   A resident of the area since 1981, Mr. Hoober graduated from Hesston College and Bethel College in Kansas with a degree in economics and business.  He worked as a banker for 17 years in loan offices and as a branch manager in New Holland and Farmers National Bank.  He also worked for Mennonite Board of Missions.  He had owned and operated Trolley Café in the Old Bag Factory in Goshen.  Currently, along with his wife, he was operating Peaceful Acres Bed and Breakfast in Shipshewana.   In Pennsylvania he had served as a school board member, a volunteer ambulance crew member and on the Leola, Pennsylvania Water Authority.   As a member of the Belmont Mennonite Church in Elkhart, he had served as a Sunday school teacher, mentor, treasurer, usher, greeter and on various commissions.  He was also involved with Gideon’s International.  He enjoyed gardening.   He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; two sons, Lin (Marla) Hoober of Manheim, Pennsylvania, and Brent (Carmen) Hoober of Goshen, Indiana; a daughter, Kristen Hoober of Goshen, Indiana; and four grandchildren.  Also surviving is a brother, Mervin (Ruth) Hoober and a sister, Doris (Paul) Snader, both of New Holland, Pennsylvania.   Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 30, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.   A 4:30 p.m. memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at Belmont Mennonite Church, Elkhart.  Pastor Dan Miller will officiate.   At 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, family and friends will meet at Yoder-Culp Funeral to go in procession to Violett Cemetery, Goshen for burial.   Memorial contributions may be designated to the Belmont Mennonite Church Love Fund or to Gideon’s International.
