Lois Weaver, 92, of Goshen, died unexpectedly Monday evening, July 6, 2009, in the emergency room at Goshen General Hospital. She was born in Elkhart on March 26, 1917, to David a. and Frances (Ferguson) Yoder. She married Ivan K. Weaver on June 25, 1939, in Elkhart. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2004. A long time resident of the area, Mrs. Weaver taught 5th grade for 23 years in the Wa-Nee school system. She also served, along with her husband, in ministry at Petoskey Mennonite Church, Petoskey, Michigan, and Central Mennonite Church, Elida, Ohio. She was a member of Waterford Mennonite Church, Elkhart County Retired Teachers’ Association and Indiana State Retired Teachers’ Association. She provided her home for children in transition and volunteered at Greencroft and Oaklawn. Her love of flowers led to the development of the Courtyard at Evergreen Place, Greencroft. She enjoyed quilting and made a quilt for each of her 16 grandchildren. Mrs. Weaver graduated from Goshen College with a bachelor’s degree and from Indiana University with a master’s degree. She is survived by six sons, Stanley (Anne) Weaver of Sylvania, Ohio, Robert (Karen) Weaver of Cincinnati,Ohio, Carl (Christina) Weaver of Goshen, Dale (Karen) Weaver of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Dennis (Pat) Weaver of Goshen, and Gary (Barbara) Weaver of Kiawah Island, South Carolina; 16 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; and two brothers, Dale and Lowell Yoder. Friends may call 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, July 10 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. An 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2009, memorial service will be conducted at Waterford Mennonite Church, Goshen, with Pastor Tina Schlabach officiating. Burial will be in Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Waterford Mennonite Church Library.
