A Lorene Compton

A. Lorene Compton, 89, of Goshen, died Saturday evening, March 5, 2011, at Courtyard Healthcare where she had been the past three months. She was born in Halifax County, Virginia, on August 5, 1921, to the late James Joseph and Lula Allen (Marshall) Poe.  She married Charles A. Compton on May 4, 1939 in Lynchburg, Virginia.  He preceded her in death on April 1, 1978. Surviving are a daughter, Betty (Merle) Reynolds of Goshen; two sons, Robert (Beulah) Compton of Goshen, and James (Barbara) Compton of Gaines, Michigan; 16 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles D. Compton; two grandsons, Billy Falin and Charles Compton; two granddaughters, Tammy Wise and Patricia Falin; and two half brothers. A homemaker, she was a member of the Ohley Baptist Church, Ohley, West Virginia.  She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2011, at Pryor Funeral Home, East Bank, West Virginia, where services will follow on Saturday. Burial will be in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow, West Virginia
